Press Release

Chatham Borough Democrats to host fundraising breakfast

Event will support Chatham Borough Council and State Assembly candidates

          Chatham, NJ, September 11, 2009:

The Chatham Borough Democratic Committee is hosting a fundraising breakfast to support local candidates on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Charlie Brown's Steakhouse, 522 Southern Blvd., from 9 - 11 a.m.

The breakfast will support incumbent Chatham Borough Council Democrats Joe Mikulewicz and Neal Collins, M.D., who are seeking their second three-year term. The breakfast is also an opportunity to meet and support Doug Herbert, Democratic candidate for State Assembly, who lives in Chatham Borough.

Admission to the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, which includes eggs, sausage, pancakes, bacon and bagels, is available for a minimum of $30.  Please RSVP to ChathamBoroDems@gmail.com if you plan to attend.

Mikulewicz and Collins were first elected to the council in 2006 on a platform that included launching the farmers' market and initiating weekend office hours to allow residents greater access to their elected officials. "We're excited to be running for re-election," says Mikulewicz, "and look forward to talking to as many residents as possible in the next few weeks as we go knocking on doors."

As the only physician on the Borough Council, Collins has given valuable input on health-related issues. "I feel that by applying the values that health care professionals have, caring for the public, I've been able to make a positive impact on how the borough interacts with its residents on important issues including those that affect public health. I hope the residents honor me with re-election so I can continue this important work,” says Collins.

Herbert is making his first run for office, and focusing his campaign on local issues. "My campaign is centered on bringing local issues to the forefront," says Herbert, who encourages citizens to share their suggestions for solving such issues with him. A military veteran and lawyer, Herbert hopes to use his diverse experiences to benefit the residents of the 26th District.

For more information on the breakfast, email ChathamBoroDems@gmail.com. If you cannot attend the breakfast but want to support the council candidates, checks can be made payable to The Committee to Re-Elect Collins/Mikulewicz and mailed to Anna Tivade, Treasurer, 18 University Ave., Chatham, NJ 07928.
